Oscar Piastri remains the intention of not being carried away now that he is heading the Formula 1 championship for the first time in his short career.
The driver of McLaren leads the 10 -point ranking after winning three of the four large Grands Prix, including the last two in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia.
It was despite a bad seasonal omission in Melbourne, where for a large part of the race, Piastri dragged Lando Norris in a McLaren 1-2, but finally finished ninth after having turned in the last stages.
The 24-year-old, who is only in his third season, said before the Miami Grand Prix this weekend: “Winning races is what is exciting for the moment.
“I think the head of the championship is nice, but I think I said after Arabia, I am much more proud and satisfied with the work and the reasons why I head the championship than really the fact that I run the championship.
“Above all, given that Melbourne did not go very well from a point of view of points, I think that it went well with regard to the execution, but since I started with a little deficit and that I removed it, I think that is the kind of the part that I appreciate the most, the reasons why we head the championship.”

Piastri is now considered the favorite for this year’s crown, despite this label belonging to Norris at the start of the year.
But since the victory of the British from Pole to Melbourne, his form has failed while Norris has struggled to go with the MCL39.
Piastri thinks that it is not due to a particular driving style that the McLaren car promotes, but it is a question of working to extract the most from the car on a given circuit.
“The car is an evolution compared to what we had last year, there are things that are different, but there are a lot of things that always do the same thing as last season,” he added.
“For my part, I feel like I took a step forward.
“As long as it makes a difference, I have always lost a few posts by a few hundredths of a second, so I still have a little more to do, but I think that has been the big difference for me so far.”
This difference saw Piastri Outqualify Norris during three weekends out of five Grands Prix in 2025, while the Briton had only one victory for three of his teammate.
The other Grand Prix was won in Japan by Max Verstappen of Red Bull, who is third in the championship and 12 points behind Piastri.
