The OC supervisor council on Tuesday, April 8, approved the payment of $ 9.5 million to pay several airport fire complaints.
A regulation of $ 3 million approved is expected to go to a family, and the remaining $ 6.5 million will be dispersed to six individual applicants. The Board of Directors voted on the regulation in session on camera, there was therefore no public discussion on complaints.
The Risk Management Service of Orange County goes through more than 2,000 deposits, complaints before the deadline to request reimbursement for a variety of physical and emotional damage. The deposits include double forms and several complaints for some of the same properties, so the official count is unknown at this stage.
The deposits recorded so far have varied from $ 100 million at a night or two in a hotel during the evacuations.
The fire started on September 9, swept 23,526 acres between the counties of Orange and Riverside, and burning for 26 days. A public works team using heavy machines to move rocks in the Tinder-Sece trabuco canyon triggered the flame. The crew failed to follow the “best practices” in the department and bring a camon truck for the abolition of fires, according to the county documents.
We do not know how much in total has already been paid by the county in the colonies. A county spokesman previously said that the county had paid around $ 1.6 million on March 15.
In January, the acting CEO of Orange County warned the heads of department and managers to limit expenses and find savings areas taking into account the slowdown in income, but also because of the potential for the airport fire disputes possibly “hundreds of millions of dollars”.
According to Calfire, the airport fire destroyed 160 structures – which includes houses, hangars, vehicles and others – and damaged 34 others.
