The ChatGPT app for Mac is now available to all users, OpenAI announced today. The app was first released in mid-May, but its rollout has been slow and limited so far to ChatGPT Plus subscribers.

OpenAI’s ChatGPT app for Mac now available to all users
OpenAI says the ChatGPT Mac app is intended to make it easier for users to access ChatGPT and ask questions about emails, screenshots, websites, and content on Mac. Once the ChatGPT app is installed, you can press Option + Space on the keyboard to bring up a chat interface for asking ChatGPT a question.

There is a built-in voice mode for having voice conversations with ChatGPT, a search function to browse past conversations, and much more. With wider deployment, no subscription plan is needed to use ChatGPT on Mac. OpenAI has made the latest version of ChatGPT, GPT-4o, available for free, but for a limited number of queries.

Apple has established a partnership with OpenAI which will see ChatGPT integrated into iOS 18, iPadOS 18 and macOS Sequoia. With user permission, Apple’s built-in Siri personal assistant can transmit complex requests to ChatGPT, relaying the information to the user.
