OPENAI said on Wednesday evening that he had hired Fiji Simo, the Director General of Instacart, to assume a new role performing the sales and operations teams of the artificial intelligence company.
In a blog post, Sam Altman, Managing Director of Openai, said that he would remain in charge as the head of the company. But the appointment of Ms. Simo as Director General of Applications would release it to focus on other parts of the organization, including research, IT and security systems, he said.
“We have become a global product company that serves hundreds of millions of users worldwide and has grown very quickly,” Altman said in the blog post. He added that Optai had also become an “infrastructure business” which delivered artificial intelligence tools on a large scale.
“Each of them is a massive effort that could be their own big business,” he wrote. “Using exceptional leaders is a key element to do that well.”
Ms. Simo, a member of the OPENAI board of directors, will supervise sales, marketing and finance. It will fall under Mr. Altman.
Openai, who sparked a frenzy on AI with her chatbot chatgpt, increased quickly and juggled several initiatives – sometimes without success. The San Francisco company has regularly published new AI models and products, including systems that can “reason”. In March, he concluded a 40 billion dollar fundraising agreement, led by the Japanese conglomerate Softbank, which estimated it at $ 300 billion and made it one of the most precious private companies in the world.
But Openai, which was created as a non -profit organization, had trouble adopting a new business structure. While the commercial attraction of artificial intelligence has developed, the company had tried to withdraw from the control by the non -profit organization. On Monday, Openai fell backwards and said that it would allow the non -profit organization to keep its grip on the company.

In a statement on Wednesday evening, Ms. Simo said that Optai “had the potential to speed up the human potential at a rate never seen before and that I am deeply determined to shape these applications to the public good.”
She added in a memo to Instacart employees that she had a “passion for AI and in particular for the potential that he must cure illnesses” and that “the ability to lead such an important part of our collective future was a hard opportunity to pass”.
Ms. Simo will remain in Instacart for the coming months when the company appoints a successor, a role which, according to her, would be fulfilled by a member of the management team of Instacart. She will also remain on the board of directors of the company as president.
“Today’s announcement does not reflect any change in our company or our operations,” said Instacart in a statement.
