OpenAI ChatGPT Announcement: Watch Live Here

OpenAI has a live announcement scheduled for 10 a.m. today, but it’s trying to keep expectations in check.

The company describes the event as “an opportunity to demo select ChatGPT and GPT-4 updates.” CEO Sam Altman, meanwhile, promotes the event with the message, “not gpt-5, not a search engine, but we’ve been working hard on some new things that we think people will love! it’s like magic to me.

Altman’s comments likely alluded to a Reuters report earlier this week suggesting that OpenAI plans to announce an AI-powered search product on Monday – stealing the spotlight at the Google I/1 developer conference. O, which begins Tuesday. The report also states that the announcement date “is subject to change.”

The Information and Bloomberg previously reported that OpenAI had a research product in development. According to The Information, the product will be partly powered by Bing (Microsoft is a major investor and partner of OpenAI); Bloomberg said it would work as a feature of ChatGPT, allowing the chatbot to search the web and cite sources, making it less of a black box that returns responses of unknown origin.

So, in theory, at least, OpenAI could announce a search feature on Monday And Altman’s insistence that it’s “not a search engine” might still be true. We will see. (The Information also reported that OpenAI has an AI voice assistant in development.)

The live stream begins at 10:00 a.m. PT Monday. You can watch on the OpenAI website or via the YouTube embed below.
