While the video game industry goes from physical media to a digital future, preservation of the game is an increasingly relevant subject. Saving the history of the medium is important, and a game historian has just successfully preserved one of the rarest video games ever made.
The Video Gaming School Bruno De Figueiredo has announced (via Time extension) that he published the ISO online for Tipitaka, the suite of cosmology of Kyoto. The original title was released in 1993 in Japan by Softedge, and this non -linear adventure game was released in North America the following year when it won a small follow -up. The rest is so obscure that a single physical copy of Tipitaka is known to exist.

Tipitaka’s physical CD-ROM was sold via Yahoo Japan in 2023 for just under $ 300. After almost two years, Figueiredo managed to convince the owner to allow him to share the game online for posterity.
