At least one person died and dozens were injured after a train collided with an oil tanker and derailed in southern Denmark, officials said.
The police said that the accident had occurred between the cities of Tinglev and Kliplev in southern Jutland, near the German border, leaving a 60 -year -old woman and 27 others injured.
In an update shortly after midnight, the police said that a crane was used on the site to raise some of the damaged cars to make sure there were no more injured passengers.
Of the five seriously injured people, two stayed in critical condition at the hospital.
Local media reported that the train had struck a suspended tanker, which is used to transport agricultural waste.
Photos of the scene showed a car lying on the side, with standing passengers around the railroad tracks.
Police said 106 people were involved in the accident. Among the passengers on board included students from a Sønderborg school, nearby, the planned destination on the train.
None of the students or two teachers with them were seriously injured, the police said, but they were invited to go to school on Saturday to speak to a psychologist.
“My thoughts go to loved ones, the many injured and all those who are currently affected by the accident,” Danish Prime Minister said Frederiksen in a statement to the public broadcaster Dr.
“I hope everyone will have the best help and the best possible support.”
The DSB country’s rail operator said that he had closed the services along the line until further notice.
The national railway agency Banedanmark wrote on X that the collision occurred during a level crossing. According to local media.
