One day, Léo will disappear from our screens… but that day is far away! TV’s hottest rising star is back on set – as a genius trying to crack the code to all the world’s computers

The role of a troubled heartbeat in Netflix’s hit drama One Day has made Leo Woodall Britain’s hottest new actor. But as these photos prove, it’s already one of the most versatile.

London-born Leo, 27, has moved seamlessly from heartbreaking to deciphering for his latest TV series Prime Target, in which he plays a postgraduate mathematics student who finds himself at the center of a spy plot.

Photographed on Cambridge University’s historic Bridge of Sighs, which connects the buildings of St John’s College over the River Cam, Leo plays lead character Edward Brook in the Apple TV thriller.

Brook’s research at university involves trying to find a pattern among prime numbers that could give him access to all the computers in the world.

But according to the drama’s synopsis: “He begins to realize that an invisible enemy is trying to destroy his idea before it is even born.”

He co-starred with Daisy Waterstone, a British actress who played Margo Durrell in ITV’s Sunday night drama The Durrells.

The role is a step away from the roles that made Leo’s name.

He appeared in the second series of the critically acclaimed HBO drama The White Lotus as Essex boy Jack, who is initially introduced as the nephew of Tom Hollander’s character Quentin but is later revealed as her lover.

Leo met his girlfriend, American actress Meghann Fahy, 33, on set in 2022, with the couple confirming their relationship late last year.

But it was the role of the charming and privileged Dexter in this year’s Netflix adaptation of David Nicholls’ 2009 novel One Day that thrust Leo into the spotlight.

The plot revolves around Dexter’s meeting with Emma (Ambika Mod) on the eve of their graduation. The next day, they separate.

They are then introduced on the same date each year to see where they are in their lives, together or apart.

Dexter becomes a trashy TV presenter in 1990s London and descends into alcohol and drug use. Describing Dexter, Leo said: “I know they say don’t judge a character, but in retrospect I can say he’s a jerk.”

Like Dexter, Leo enjoys his moment in the spotlight – but without self-destructive tendencies.

Filming has begun on his first major film, a drama about the Nuremberg trials directed by James Vanderbilt and also starring Russell Crowe, Rami Malek and Richard E Grant.

Yet Leo’s impressive career almost didn’t happen.

He would have liked to become a physical education teacher or a stuntman, and only made the firm decision to become an actor after obtaining a place at drama school at 19.
