New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Saturday alleged that the Aam Aadmi party government introduced the ‘Lalu model’ in a new form in the nation’s capital and made huge sums of money by enlisting false names as beneficiaries in under the Construction Workers Welfare Board. .
“The Aam Aadmi Party government is involved in alcohol, education, DTC bus scams and even disenfranchised workers. Arvind Kejriwal presented a new model of corruption; Lalu Prasad Yadav’s ‘looting’ model is being followed by Kejriwal in Delhi,” Union Minister Anurag Thakur told a press conference.
It’s “Delhi’s own Lalu model”, Thakur said, a day before the nation’s capital will vote to elect the new Delhi municipality.
The Aam Aadmi party has yet to react to the latest BJP allegation on the eve of the municipal elections.
Rashtriya Janta Dal leader Lalu Prasad Yadav was found guilty of the Bihar fodder scam and has been jailed for a long time in connection with the cases. “There (Bihar) cattle feed was gobbled up, here (Delhi) workers’ rights were trampled on,” Thakur claimed and alleged that Kejriwal and “his friends” withdrew crores citing welfare construction workers in Delhi.
According to reports, the Delhi government’s Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB) discovered that ‘ghost’ workers had been granted funds to the tune of Rs 900 crore by the AAP government’s labor department. In 2018, the ACB registered a case after discovering fake employee registration with the Delhi Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board.
“Kejriwal presented Lalu’s model in a new form. It was discovered that there were false names, addresses and mobile numbers of people registered as construction workers. Even ‘kachori’ vendors and taxi drivers have been enlisted as employers,” Thakur said, showing a sheaf of papers.
The minister also pointed out that there were names of people in the UP and Haryana lists. “Who is responsible for the waste of funds for construction workers in Delhi,” the minister said, reading out the names and their addresses.
“There have been alcohol scams, classroom construction scams, bus scams and now this one. I wonder how Arvind Kejriwal is able to sleep at night,” questioned Thakur.
Over 17 lakh people have been registered with the Delhi Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board (DBOCWWB) as construction workers.
The Kejriwal government had provided financial aid of Rs 5,000 each to registered construction workers to help them during the lockdown imposed due to Covid-19. The Delhi government last month announced relief of Rs 5,000 each to registered construction workers due to a ban on pollution-related construction activities in the city.
