Ohio murder suspect arrested again after mistakenly released from prison

Authorities say a suspect in an Ohio murder was rearrested after a prison mistakenly released him due to a typo.

CLEVELAND — A suspect in an Ohio murder who was mistakenly released from prison due to a clerical error was captured Wednesday, authorities said.

U.S. police officers arrested Amarion Sanders, 22, of Cleveland, during an early morning traffic stop in the city.

Sanders was mistakenly released Monday from the Cuyahoga County Correctional Center in Cleveland, where he was being held on $1 million bail. The jail released him after charges against a man in an unrelated case were dropped, and that defendant’s case number was entered incorrectly.

Sanders’ trial was scheduled to begin Aug. 19. He is charged with aggravated murder in connection with a September 2023 shooting in Cleveland and has maintained his innocence. His attorney did not respond to a request for comment Wednesday.

County, state and federal law enforcement, including the U.S. Marshall’s Office, participated in the search for Sanders.
