Ohio Issues First Recreational Marijuana Licenses

AKRON, Ohio (WJW) — Ohio has issued its first recreational marijuana licenses.

“We feel like we’ve been preparing for this for months, if not years,” said Pete Nischt of Klutch Cannabis in Akron.

Klutch is among the first in the state to obtain a recreational marijuana license.

The Division of Cannabis Control issued the first batch of dual-use operating certificates Friday to 10 growers and processors in the state. Four of them are in northeast Ohio.

“We are excited, but we know there will be a flood of licenses coming soon. We are thrilled to be among the first, it is exciting to see these licenses issued,” said Nischt.

At this point, the state said no operating certificates have been issued to any dispensaries to begin selling recreational marijuana.

According to a spokesperson for the Cannabis Control Division, there is no specific day when all recreational sales will begin.

The state said about 216 companies are waiting for a dual-use license to officially enter the adult-use product market.
