Ancient major feature Octavio Dotel died in a tragic accident, said Major League Baseball. The news was reported for the first time by several points of sale in the Dominican Republic, including Diario Libre. The Jet Set Club roof in Santo Domingo collapsed in the early hours of Tuesday morning. Tuesday evening, at least 98 people lost their lives while nearly 200 others were injured, according to the Associated Press. Dotel was 51 years old.
The exact details of the tragic situation are difficult to identify, but it seems that hundreds of people were on the site for a concert when the collapse occurred. Dozens of people have been removed alive, but many are dead and the figures are likely to change. Dotel would have been trapped for about 11 hours before being rescued and first survived, but was declared dead after being taken to the hospital.
Dotel was well known to baseball fans because he launched in the majors for more than a decade and rebounded in various teams. He made his debut in the major league with the food in 1999, working in a swing role. Astros were exchanged before the 2000 season and continued to work both out of the rotation and the enclosure of the lifts for a while.
He finally took on a main rescue role and was more successful. Although his deserved average of the race was greater than 5.00 in 1999 and 2000, he posted an MPM of 2.66 in 2001. He launched 105 rounds on 61 appearances, only four of these beginnings.
He continued to work as a solid relief for years after that, bouncing towards athletics, yankees, royals, braves, white sox, pirates, dodgers, rocky, blue jays, cardinals and tigers. He ended his career with an MPM of 3.78 in 758 games. He recorded 109 stops and 127 titles. He won the World Series with the Cardinals in 2011. He was part of a boost combined with the Astros in 2003. He retired in 2014.
At MLB Trade, we send our deepest condolences to family, friends and fans of Dotel, as well as hundreds of others who were affected by this horrible event.
