San Jose – The Giants of San Jose and the Ballers of Oakland were in the same stadium – literally and figuratively – Wednesday evening in San Jose.
The Giants, the Single-A of the Giants of San Francisco, and the Ballers, an independent team of the Pioneer League, played a competitive exhibition match in excite Ballpark, the giants arriving on the top 5-2.
The match was the very first competition between the affiliated and independent baseball teams, a new rivalry nicknamed “Battle of the Bay 2.0”.
Although it cannot replace the now extinct rivalry between the Giants Oakland A and San Francisco – The first iteration of a professional baseball battle – the competition between the two minor league clubs has renewed the spirit of the original series.
The two teams hope to make it an annual event to move forward.
