A suburban Oak Lawn truck driver has been charged after a bomb threat led authorities to close a South Carolina highway for hours, law enforcement said.
Ahmad Jamal Khamees Alhendi, 28, was charged with serious and aggravated breach of peace for transmitting false information about a bomb threat and not having a driver’s license.
On Thursday, around 2:45 p.m., a South Carolina State Transportation Police officer stopped a tractor-trailer on Interstate 85 in Greenville County for a missing license plate, a reported WYFF, the NBC affiliate in Greenville, South Carolina. During the check, the driver, identified as Alhendi, indicated there was an explosive device inside the vehicle, authorities said.
All lanes of the highway were closed while law enforcement investigated the threat.
Following the incident, Alhendi was taken into custody by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Alhendi failed to comply with the conditions of his legal admission and now has a hearing scheduled for August 6, 2026 before an immigration judge, WYFF reported.
