NVIDIA Corp. (NASDAQ:NVDA) announced its first Quantum Day, which will take place on March 20 during the GTC 2025 event. The announcement comes just days after CEO Jensen Huang said practical quantum computing could still be two decades away.
What happened: The event aims to highlight the rapid advancements in quantum computing, a technology that is expected to transform industries such as drug discovery, materials science and financial forecasting. Huang will lead discussions with executives from major industry players, including Alice and Bob, Atomic computing, IONQ Inc. (NYSE: IONQ) and Wave D (NYSE: QBTS), the company said in a blog post Wednesday.
Don’t miss:
Quantum Day will feature sessions exploring the current and future potentials of quantum technology. These sessions will be led by Huang and other experts in the quantum field. Additionally, a Developer Day session will focus on collaborations between NVIDIA and its partners to advance quantum computing technologies.
Why it matters: Last week at Nvidia’s analyst day, CEO Huang shared his optimism about the future of quantum computing, but cautioned that practical applications could still be 15 to 30 years away.
“If you said 15 years for very useful quantum computers, that would probably be a start. If you said 30 years, that would probably be a late deadline,” he said.
Huang’s comments were supported by Meta Platforms Inc. CEO Mark Zuckerberg. During his appearance on Joe RoganIn Saturday’s podcast, Zuckerberg admitted his limited expertise on the subject but aligned himself with industry consensus, suggesting a decade-long timeline for widespread adoption of quantum computing.

Meanwhile, although Huang said practical quantum computing could be two decades away, NVIDIA is investing heavily in its future. The company is recruiting strategically to strengthen its quantum computing capabilities. This indicates NVIDIA’s long-term commitment to the integration of quantum and classical computing systems.
Additionally, the announcement comes at a time when quantum computing stocks are gaining momentum in Wednesday’s premarket. Following Microsoft Corp.(NASDAQ:MSFT) to make its professional customers “quantum ready” by 2025, actions like Quantum Computing Inc. (NASDAQ: QUBT) and D-Wave Quantum posted significant gains. This push highlights the growing anticipation and investment in quantum computing technologies.
