Philadelphia (WPVI) – The Medical Transport Jet carrying a patient and his mother in Mexico was in the air for less than a minute before diving on the ground in a lively corridor in the northeast of Philadelphia, the National Transportation Safety Board announced on Saturday evening.
“It was a high impact accident and the plane is very fragmented. There is a substantial impact on the whole community,” said NTSB president Jennifer Homendy.
The accident made at least seven lives and injured 19 other people following an explosion that sent flying debris in the block.
“The debris is dispersed. It is very dangerous, and I therefore encourage everyone to stay outside the accident site. It is very dangerous,” noted Mumendy.
The officials did not specify the extent of the injured, but said that the results and the number of deaths could change, adding that it could be days or more before knowing the totals for sure.

Jefferson Health told Action News that they provided care for 15 people and that 12 had since been released. Two people were admitted for other care and a patient was transferred to another hospital.

A pediatric patient is treated at St. Christopher for children’s hospital.

“It could be intact but probably it is damaged. It can be fragmented,” said Momendy, adding that the device, known as a black box, is orange in color.
Mumendy stressed that it could be in pieces or a different color due to the explosion.

The jet left the track at 6:06 p.m. and climbed to 1,500 feet, officials said. It took a slight right -wing turn followed by a slight turn on the left before it fell on the ground, said the NTSB.
