NRL legend Sam Burgess involved in tunnel altercation with rival official after controversial incident: ‘He made a smart comment’

  • Sam Burgess and officials clash in heated exchange
  • The Souths legend was unhappy with the previous incident
  • Burgess said the tunnel was a “very small corridor”

Warrington head coach Sam Burgess was involved in a tunnel bust with Hull director of rugby Richie Myler following his side’s 24-6 Super League victory.

The NRL great barged into Myler as he walked through the tunnel at Halliwell Jones Stadium, after apparently being unhappy about losing a rally.

Warrington player Adam Holroyd was not named in the official Wolves team list that was sent to the RFL during the week – reducing the team to seven trades.

Burgess was clearly annoyed when he spoke to Sky Sports after the match.

Rabbitohs legend Sam Burgess was involved in a tunnel altercation with Hull director of rugby Richie Myler.

“I don’t know, it was mismanagement on someone’s part,” he said.

“We named a squad of 21 players, it’s on our social media and it’s public, so we have to get it right. We’re talking about concussion and protecting our players, well tonight you failed .

“Someone needs to be held accountable for this. We had a choice to make before the match and we didn’t make the right choice for the players.

“If it had been the other way around, I would still have made the right choice for the player.

“We live in this world now, so let’s all get on board. Otherwise, what do we do?

The Rabbitohs great also commented on his altercation in the tunnel with his rival.

“It’s a very small lane,” Burgess said in the post-match press conference.

“He made a smart comment as I walked past. He really doesn’t need to do that.

“I understand he’s new in this position – so am I. But the game is over, it’s over now.” Let’s get out of here.’

Burgess left Souths under a dark cloud last year amid an alleged dispute over the alleged favorable treatment of star players Latrell Mitchell and Cody Walker, with Demetriou siding with his fullback and five-eighth.

Burgess landed his first high-profile coaching job in the offseason, with the Wolves, and he’s already keeping the team flying.
