Novak Djokovic suffered an overwhelming defeat against a teenager while the Czech Jakub Mensik denied his title of an idol open with a 7-6 (4) 7-6 (4) victory in the final on Sunday. This is the first ATP title in Mensik, 19, while Djokovic did not reach his 100th marking.
The 54th classified Mensik was confronted with difficult ratings during his second ATP final, but exploited his best weapon to master the major winner of 24 times with 14 AS.
Djokovic, 37, had hoped to join Jimmy Connors (109) and Roger Federer (103) as the only men in the open era with 100 career titles or more but could not match the adolescent’s speed and creative game.
The match started a few hours after it was to start after repeated rainy delays forced a long suspension of the female championship match in the day earlier.
