Forest admitted their PSR breach was overspending by £34.5 million over a three-year period and would have been hit with a six-point deduction.

However, this number was reduced to four after the independent commission praised their “excellent cooperation”.

Forest are currently three points above the drop zone with two games remaining.

Nottingham Forest are yet to officially comment on their unsuccessful appeal.

They face Chelsea at home and Burnley away in their final two games of the season.

However, they were scathing of the Premier League in a previous response to their initial deduction.

“We were extremely dismayed by the tone and content of the arguments presented by the Premier League to the Commission,” the club said.

“After months of engagement with the Premier League and exceptional cooperation, this was unexpected and damaged the confidence we had in the Premier League.”

The club also highlighted the transfer of Brennan Johnson which took place outside the PSR reference period, but still within the same window.

If they had sold him earlier, for a lower price, the club probably would have complied.
