Notre Dame’s starting left tackle Anthonie Knapp suffered a high ankle sprain in a 27-24 Orange Bowl victory over Penn State.
Knapp won’t be available to play in the College Football Playoff national championship game against Ohio State on Jan. 20, head coach Marcus Freeman announced Sunday.
Notre Dame replaced Knapp in the second quarter with graduate senior Tosh Baker.

Starting right guard Rocco Spindler will try to practice this week, Freeman said. Spindler was knocked out of the Penn State game with an apparent ankle injury. He was replaced by Charles Jagusah.
Wide receiver Beaux Collins is dealing with a calf strain, which kept him sidelined for most of the Penn State game. As long as he progresses in practice, Freeman said, he’ll be good to go for the game.
Running back Jeremiyah Love is expected to be “full-go.” Love has been dealing with a right knee injury but played a significant role in ND’s victory over Penn State.
