Northwestern University student injured in Rogers Park shooting – NBC Chicago

A Northwestern University student was shot and injured as she walked through Willye White Park in Rogers Park on Monday evening.
The 19-year-old woman was shot in the abdomen and chest and was taken to St. Francis Hospital in good condition, police said.
The woman was walking in the park with someone when she was shot, according to Ald. Maria Hadden (49th), who said she was not the intended target.
“Turning our park into a shooting range is completely unacceptable and we will work closely with violence prevention teams and police to prevent this from happening again,” Hidden said in a statement. “Additional patrols will be in the area for the next several days and the Memorial Day holiday.”
The Rogers Park Police District has seen an increase in shootings and homicides this year, according to police data. Homicides rose 150% from a year ago, from 2 to 5. Shootings jumped 23%, from 13 to at least 19.
Citywide, homicides are down 7% from a year ago, shootings down 9%.
