North Wollongong: Terrifying moment giant wave sweeps away toddler – before dad jumps in to save her

A little girl was swept into rough waters by a huge wave while walking on a sea wall with her father, who saved her by jumping in moments later.

Video footage captured the moment the little girl, accompanied by her father, walked on the sea wall in North Wollongong around midday on Saturday.

The area was being hit by intense waves caused by a powerful storm that hit much of the east coast the night before.

A massive wave hit, sweeping the toddler off his feet and into the choppy white water below.

Her father wasted no time jumping over the tracks and into the water to save her.

Breathtaking footage has been released showing a father bravely diving into rough waters to save his young daughter who had been swept away by a large wave (pictured)

Four ambulances and a rescue helicopter rushed to the scene, while bystanders grabbed nearby buoys to help the two men.

The father could be seen desperately clinging to the girl while struggling to stay afloat in the rough seas.

A witness said the father was exhausted when he was pulled from the water.

A NSW Ambulance spokesperson told Daily Mail Australia both men were treated for ingestion of minor quantities of water and small abrasions.

They were both taken to Wollongong Hospital in a stable condition.
