A 21 -year -old man who had been missing last month was found dead Tuesday in a submerged car in the San Luis Rey river in Bonsall, sheriff officials said.
A team of divers and research and rescue volunteers discovered the body of Isaiah Lowe after a day recovery effort, said Lieutenant Darrell McNeal of the Sheriff.
Lowe was seen for the last time on January 22 when the surveillance video showed him going to his Chevrolet Camaro, said McNeal. His family reported him missing two days later at the Fallbrook sheriff station.
His name was put in the database of the missing person, and a bulletin with his description was distributed to law enforcement organizations in southern California, investigators said.
Lowe’s mother contacted the investigators on Monday to tell them that she had a blow on a GPS follow -up device in her car, said McNeal.
The investigators said they went to the location and found a damaged fence in the area where the GPS stopped following the Camaro just north of Ramona Drive and south of the State 76. Debris of the car were also found on the shoulder of the road.
The car was found overwhelmed in the river at the foot of the road, but nightfall forced the recovery to be canceled up to the next day, officials said.
The team withdrew the Camaro on Tuesday. The body inside corresponded to the description of Lowe, said McNeal.
The County Legalist’s office will determine the cause of death.
Investigators asked anyone with information to call the Sheriff’s Office to (858) 868-3200.
