Nonprofits can apply for a portion of the $10,000 offered by Exchange Club for Orrville projects.

The Exchange Club of Orrville will mark its centennial in 2024 by allocating $10,000 for community awareness and support.

To make a positive impact, nonprofit organizations are invited to submit project proposals for consideration. Organizations can showcase their initiatives and compete for a share of the grant to continue their work within the Orrville community.

Interested applicants should send the project summary to Exchange Club, PO Box 64, Orrville 44667. The deadline for the first round is June 1, with donations due by June 30. The second deadline is September 1st and money paid by September 30th. .

Exchange Club will focus grants on its four pillars: Americanism, community service, youth activities and child abuse prevention.

Scholarship winners and Outstanding Business of the Year were recognized at the May 13 meeting of the Northwestern Ruritan Club.

Scholarship recipients include Northwestern High School graduates Quinn Fast, Alyssah Fisher, Logan Garman, Madalyne Hunt, Tristan Miller, Ella Saal, Lillian Wakefield and Luke Walton.

Each will receive $750 in October if they are enrolled in a college.

With the $6,000 in funding this year, this brings the grand total to $182,180 which has been awarded to 463 students over the past.

Tegmeier Farms received the Outstanding Business distinction this year. Randy Tegtmeier accepted the award and gave an inspiring presentation. He, with his father and uncle, farmed many acres in the Congressional area. Part of the acres was started by his grandfather, Harold Tegtmeier. Randy Tegtmeier also deals in agricultural seed sales and raising and selling pumpkins.

Tegtmeier graduated from NWHS and received a Ruritan Scholarship. He attended Ohio State University where he met his future wife, Heather. They have three sons.

In club affairs it was noted that this was the club’s 55th anniversary, with the charter night taking place in May 1969. Bob Criss and Jerry Payn are the only charter members.

Thank you notes were received from the Mohican Church Grocery Bag Ministry for donating sausages and from Ella Saal and Luke Walton for their scholarships. The club will donate funds to Wayne County Rails to Trails as a sustaining member.

Parade of Flags, about 350 flags so far), will be unfurled before Memorial Day and left aside until after Independence Day. Husky Brigade packages were sent to area soldiers on May 14. Volunteers are needed for roadside trash pickup June 11 on State Route 301 between Pleasant Home and Lattasburg roads. The assistants will meet in the College parking lot at 9 a.m.

The next dinner meeting will take place at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, June 10 at the high school. The directors will meet at 6 p.m.
