Non-citizen voting is rare. The Republicans are focused on it anyway.

House Speaker Mike Johnson warned on Capitol Hill this week that non-U.S. citizens voting in November’s elections pose a “clear and present danger,” proposing federal legislation to stop it. Tennessee’s Republican governor recently signed a law requiring the state to scrutinize non-citizen voter rolls. And in four other states, Republicans helped put measures on the ballot this fall to ensure that the only people who vote in elections are U.S. citizens.
