Ben Affleck says that he “hated” the combination and that he was “horrible to wear” and “make the film realize difficult”.
Addressing GQ, Affleck said the main problem with the elaborate costume was the heat it generated. “They don’t breathe. They are made to look like their way of seeing.
Affleck said that even highly qualified stuntmen struggled to wear the costume for long periods. “They could do this for about 45, 50 minutes and then they will have heat strokes. So you had to get out. “
He added: “It is just difficult to make the film, because you are so hot. It doesn’t make you feel very heroic, because you are instantly exhausted and really sweat.”
Affleck played Batman in two features produced by Zack Snyder: Batman against Superman: Dawn of Justice in 2016 and Justice League in 2017 (with the latter reissued and released in 2021 as the League justice of Zack Snyder), as well as Cames in Suicide Squad and The Flash. Affleck was originally attached to Star in the autonomous film and co-written direct and co-written The Batman, but was finally replaced in the role by Robert Pattinson after the disappointing trade performance of Batman V Superman and Justice League.
The combination of Affleck, designed by the costume designer nominated with Oscars Michael Wilkinson and built by Jose Fernandez and Ironhead Studio, would have been made from several layers of Lyca and foam, taking Affleck about 25 minutes to enter, with up to six assistant assistants. In 2015, Wilkinson described the hood as an “incredible engineering”, claiming that the previous combinations had not allowed the actors to turn their heads, and that the costume as it was “comfortable and very flexible” and allow Affleck to happen in “very natural and energetic way”.
The combination of Affleck is not the first to attract criticism, with the “nipple costume” that George Clooney wore for Batman & Robin in 1997 often quoted as one of the reasons for the poor performance of the film.
