There will be no Magnus Carlsen vs Hans Niemann match at the next Parisian stage of the Grand Slam Freestyle Chess 2025. Niemann withdrew from the event with only a few days for the chess tournament.
The news of Niemann withdrawing from the Paris leg of the Grand Chelem tour of the Freestyle chess was shared by the organizers on Saturday with the tournament which should start on Monday April 7.
The Grand Master Uzbekistan Nodirbek Abdusattorov was included in the Niemann replacement tournament. “Hans Niemann withdrew from the last minute and Nodirbek Abdusattorov will replace it,” said the organizers of Freestyle Chess on Instagram.
The exact reasons for Niemann’s withdrawal were not shared by the organizers.
Niemann did not publish any declaration or clarification on his part. On Tuesday, he had published an animated photo of Ghibli-Style of him playing failures with the former world champion Vladimir Kramnik on his X account with the legend “” goes soon in Paris “.

In addition to Keymer, Abdusattorov and Carlsen, other players from the Paris tournament will be Hikaru Nakamura, Fabiano Caruana, Ian Nepomniachtchi, Richard Report (replacement Alireza Firouzja), Maxime Vachier-Lagrave, D Gukesh, Arigausi, R Praggnan.
The Freestyle Tour in Paris has a price pool of $ 7,50,000 and the winner is guaranteed of $ 2,000,000.
