No California tsunami danger from Taiwan quake

Authorities said there was no tsunami threat to California and the US west coast after a powerful earthquake shook the coast of Taiwan on Tuesday evening.

The US Geological Survey recorded an earthquake with a magnitude of 7.5. Tsunami warnings were issued for parts of Taiwan and Japan.

The U.S. National Tsunami Warning Center said it had studied the quake and determined that the West Coast was not at risk. However, some areas “may experience non-damaging changes in sea level.” The agency did not specify which areas might see changes.
