Apart from Obvious problems with the drift of the stickThe biggest problem with the Joy-Cons of Nintendo Switch of origin is that they tended to be rather uncomfortable.
More in some games than others, but at the beginning of the console, I found that my hands were putting itself very quickly – to the point where I should stop and take a break.
THE Nintendo Switch 2 changed the design of the joy-consumes very slightly, offering a smoother magnetic connection, a larger profile, mouse commands and more. Unfortunately, the same comfort problem remains, and I actually think that it could be worse this time.
Mario Kart is the scourge of my hands
Back in 2017 when I got the first Nintendo switchI spent a lot of time playing Mario Kart 8. It was one of the few games I had when I bought the console, and I put a large number of hours by trying 3 stars all the great prices in the various difficulties.
I still have not managed to go very far on 200cc, if someone wonders.
The problem with the reading of Mario Kart on Joy-Cons, in portable or television mode, was that my hands would become incredibly painful over long periods. It can be something to do with the way I was holding my hand during the shopping, with my thumb pressed on the almost constant acceleration button. (You can activate automatic acceleration, but it cheats me.)
It may be my big hands compared to the compact nature of the joy-cons or perhaps it is the general design of the mini controllers-perhaps both. But I had the impression that whatever the games I played, I had to take breaks much earlier than I would have done if I used a full -size controller.
Mario Kart was not the only offender. At the time, I had comfort problems with a variety of different switching games, from Skyrim to Stardew Valley. But during 8 years, I slowly got used to the general form of the joys -conspiracies in my hands – to the point where discomfort is no longer a problem.
Now that Nintendo has changed the design, even if it should be for the best, these problems have returned with revenge. And, of course, Mario Kart was the key offender.
Switch 2 Joy-Cons is much more uncomfortable for me
It does not matter that I play in portable mode, with cowardly joys or that I attach them to the official handle. After a while, my hands are starting to hurt while playing the game. Mario Kart is the worst offender so far, although I admit that this is what I spent most of my time playing.
During an extended period, I could almost feel what Chandler’s hand on friends had to look like Ms. Pac-Man record.
I took a break to write this to make sure that my experiences could not be deleted as a general fatigue, and I found that my right hand was starting to hurt before finishing a single race on Mario Kart World.
Feeling your hand seizing slowly is not a fun thing, especially when you are in the middle of a race. Over an extended period, I could almost feel what the hand was to be chandler after a Prolonged session of Ms. Pac-Man. Obviously, I don’t want to be stuck with my hand in an erroneous assistance claw as long as it would take to relax, so I had to take a break.
Medical experts always tell us that we have to take regular breaks of the screens, so it may not be such a bad thing. But the last thing I want when I try weakly to exceed a blue shell is to have to face cramps in my hand. Especially when I still have 3 additional races to do.
The only reason I can think that it is suddenly so bad is that the new Joy-Con design is simply different enough for the muscular memory of the old switch is now functionally useless. Which means that I will have to start from scratch – hampered by the fact that I have now almost 8 years older and that I am starting to collapse.
End
The comfort of Joy -Cons is certainly not a dealbreaker for me, and I will certainly not avoid playing my Switch 2 – especially once there are more exclusive games to play. But that means that I may have to bite the ball and opt for another type of controller the majority of time.
This should be a brand new controller, a kind of adhesion to make the Switch 2 Joy-Cons much more comfortable to last for long periods. Ideally something a little more affordable than the Pro switch 2 Pro controller.
If I will have to spend $ 80 to something for Switch 2, I prefer to buy a game.
