
Nintendo always seems to renew its marks in the juic moments. Although these renewals are rarely anything to get excited, a little speculation never hurts. Especially With a new console looming.
As brought to our attention to Bluesky by @ stealth40k, Nintendo has renewed brands today for the Metroid Prime 3: Corruption of Wii and DS Metroid Prime: Hunters. With Prime Remastered making a surprise appearance on Switch Back in 2023 and Prime 4 set to land on Switch 2 at one point this year, it is natural to let a little excitement settle when two other standard additions are mentioned in the same breath, but do not get ahead of ourselves here.
Listen, we want more metroid as much as anyone else, but brand renewals are a fairly standard affair for large companies like the House of Mario, we therefore advise to read too much. All that a renewal really means that Nintendo can keep the rights of a game title, without having to worry about someone else who sweeps and applies to use it – just look at the huge sections of new trade brands rewarded in 2021, 2022 and even earlier this year.
So yes, these marks probably do not mean anything for the future of Metroid Prime; But we are only human, and the return of prime 3 (and 2, while we are there) would be very soft …
