Reflecting on the row over transgender rights, Sturgeon said it felt like on every issue “people were approaching this issue based on how they felt about me – that seemed true on the trans issue, that seemed true on a number of issues.”
Sturgeon said she believed that if she removed herself from the equation, “perhaps politics and discourse and debate in Scotland would be a little healthier”.
But, she admitted, “it didn’t really happen that way, but yes, that’s why I decided to step down.”
