The Dallas Mavericks drafted who they hope to be the face of their franchise on Wednesday, taking the star of Duke Cooper Flagg with the first global choice.
The MAVS won the recovery lottery after having made one of the greatest professions in the history of the NBA, sending Luka Dončić to the Los Angeles Lakers in exchange for Anthony Davis. They were only 1.8% chance of obtaining the first choice.
Dallas Director General Nico Harrison believes that the team’s risky commercial decision has led to his good luck.
“Fortune promotes daring”, Harrison Tell to journalists. “Things so exciting fell in our way.”
Harrison too called Flagg “a generational talent” and a “unique chance”.
Dončić was both the face of the franchise and the player who was supposed to bring the Mavs back to a championship before being exchanged. Naturally, Harrison had to face important reactions after the move.
After writing Flagg, Harrison hopes that some of the reactions get married.
“I hope so much”, Harrison Tell to journalists. “I guess yes, maybe.”
But in the moments preceding the draft, the fans were still angry with Harrison.
During his end -of -season press conference, Harrison replied that he was aware of the importance of Dončić for the fans base, but admitted that he did not know the extent of his importance.
“I knew that Luka was important for the base of the fans”, Harrison said. “I didn’t know what level.”
In the end, Harrison’s decision to separate from Dončić cannot be defeated now, but if he can help the Mavericks in a championship, the fans could invoice a little. While Harrison was not responsible for Dallas who won the choice n ° 1, because he decided a random, the landing of Flagg certainly augurs well for the future of the Mavericks.
Flagg was a consensual national player of the year as a recruit, which showed 19.2 points, 7.5 rebounds and 4.2 assists per game. A Flagg nucleus, Anthony Davis and Kyrie Irving has the chance to compete at least in the playoffs at the start of his career and could possibly bring a title to the team.
