Boston Bruins (+115) vs. Carolina Hurricanes (-135), Overall: 6

The Bruins winning Game 6 in Boston was one of the most predictable results of the NHL playoffs. They’re powered by local audiences and get the line matches they want, allowing Brad Marchand’s line to perform in a way it hasn’t on the road. Thus, the Bruins won all three games in Boston. But those factors are the same reasons they lost all three games in Raleigh. Cannes fans are like a hurricane in their sails. Getting the latest change means stapling Jordan Staal’s line of control to the Marchand and Patrice Bergeron line, while keeping the Bruins’ top line away from Sebastian Aho’s unit. They outscored the Bruins 15-4 at home. It’s a different team in Raleigh. More importantly, so are the Bruins.

The choice : ML Hurricanes (-135)

Tampa Bay Lightning (+105) vs. Toronto Maple Leafs (-125), total: 6.5

7:05 a.m. ET

Over bets have hit in five of six games in this series, as only Game 1 went under. So of course we play the underside here. But seriously, we’re following big trends rather than relying on the context of this series. It’s Game 7 in Toronto, with the Leafs seeking their first playoff win since 2004, after wasting a chance to do so in Game 6. Andrei Vasilevskiy has been a .885 goaltender in this series. And yet, we can’t ignore his five consecutive shutouts in series-deciding games for the Lightning. Maybe the Leafs will win. Maybe the Lightning are keeping the road to the hat-trick open. We just think it will be more of a tough and tight game than the tally of 6.5 goals suggests.

The choice : Less than 6.5

Game 7 is tricky to predict between these two teams. Every game but one has totaled six or more goals. The Oilers surpassed their 3.5 team total in four of six games, but were also shut out by Jonathan Quick in Game 4. There are times when teams seem even and there are times when it seems like Connor McDavid can score at will. . So we’ll focus on the first half instead. The total has been less than three of six games in the first, including two consecutive games. We’ll assume this trend holds for Game 7.

The choice : Less than 1.5 goals in the 1st period (+125)
