The 6-foot-2 safety totaled 79 tackles, 2.5 sacks, two interceptions and a forced fumble in 12 starts for the Cougars last season.

His family was elated after learning of his move to Kansas City, jumping out of their seats and hugging him to celebrate his selection as one of the back-to-back Super Bowl winners.

Hicks was rated by some experts as the No. 1 safety in the class heading into this week’s NFL Draft.

He has been a durable player for Washington State, appearing in all 26 of their games over the past two seasons. That streak included 23 consecutive starts to end his career in Pullman.

The former Cougars safety was a three-star recruit out of Las Vegas before heading to Washington and ultimately being named to the All-Pac-12 honorable mention team.

At 211 pounds, Hicks should bring plenty of aggression and intensity to the Kansas City secondary.

The Chiefs are looking to become the first team in history to achieve an unprecedented “three-peat” by winning a third straight Super Bowl next season.
