‘Newcastle would be ideal’ – Gareth Bale warned against Cardiff City move as ex-Real Madrid player eyes summer move

Ally McCoist thinks Gareth Bale would sell himself short by moving to Championship Cardiff city side.

The Welsh talisman is currently without a club after ending his decorated nine-year association with Real Madrid.

Bale hopes to be fully fit for the World Cup with Wales later this year

As Wales prepare for this year’s World Cup in Qatar, the 32-year-old is looking for a club where he can continue his career and ensure he takes part in the tournament in optimal conditions.

Bale’s hometown club Bluebirds are among those seriously considering a move for Bale, but according to McCoist the striker would be better served in the Premier League with a club like Newcastle.

Speaking on The Sports Breakfast, McCoist said: “I’m looking at it and it’s clear there’s absolutely nothing wrong with wanting to go back and play for your hometown club.

“I think it’s admirable, to say the least.

“However, I still think he has a lot to offer at the top level, really.

“You look at him in internationals and he will be ready for the World Cup in Qatar and I just think there are surely Premier League clubs there.

Bale has a big decision to make this summer

“Automatically, I just think Newcastle would be ideal.”

McCoist is also not the first person to suggest Newcastle as an ideal destination for Bale, with Welsh legend Dean Saunders also advocating the move.

“If I could pick a club for him to go to now, I’d say he signs for Newcastle,” Saunders told talkSPORT.

“They have a project; they are going in the right direction – it would fit.

“The fans right now in Newcastle, because I’ve been there and worked there – and I realize how much they love the club – right now they could sell 80,000 season tickets.”
