A New Zealand TV presenter has revealed on air the terrifying moment she was grabbed on a street while in Australia.

New Zealand AM co-host Melissa Chan-Green remembers a man grabbing her on a Sydney street “a few years ago”.

“I was in a situation in Australia once when I was walking down the street and there were reports at the time in Sydney that a man had been seen sexually harassing women,” he said. -she declared during Friday’s show.

“This man was running straight towards me in a suit but barefoot and he looked pretty distressed, so I kind of stopped for a bit and thought ‘are you okay?’

Melissa Chan-Green, co-host of the New Zealand AM show, remembers a man grabbing her on a Sydney street “a few years ago”.

“He ran up to me, got really close, grabbed me and said, ‘I’ve got you,’ then ran away.

“It shook me up a little bit and I went to call the police and said ‘you know, this happened… I know I didn’t expect everyone to go find him but I’m reporting it in case that’s the case.” is part of a pattern,’ and it (the response) was really quite dismissive.’

Ms Chan-Green told the story as the show’s hosts questioned whether police were taking the problem of stalking in New Zealand seriously enough after a woman was recently killed.

Farzana Yaqubi, 21, allegedly filed an online complaint with police after fearing for her safety eight weeks before she was stabbed to death in Auckland.

The Independent Police Conduct Authority found that Ms Yaqubi told police she was living in extreme fear before a man killed her in broad daylight in late 2022.

“It’s absolutely shocking,” Ms Chan-Green said.

“We certainly wouldn’t want to suggest that if you were in that position you wouldn’t go and report it because you absolutely do.”

“The police are reviewing their systems on this and promising changes.”
