New YouTube Premium features include picture-in-picture for YouTube Shorts

YouTube recently launched a series of new features for Premium subscribers, including a quick way to skip the most boring parts of a video. When users double-tap on a video, they now jump directly to the parts that YouTube has marked as the most interesting based on a combination of AI and audience data. This feature is now available in the US for Android users, but it will also roll out to iOS users in the coming weeks. On Android, Premium subscribers can now also watch Shorts while checking email, browsing social media, or generally doing things on other apps with the new picture-in-picture feature .

Paid users will also have access to the video hosting site’s latest experimental features. One of YouTube’s most recent test features is Smart Downloads for Shorts, which automatically saves short-form videos from the service to users’ devices so they can watch them offline. Additionally, Android users now have access to a conversational AI experience that can answer their questions and suggest related content without having to stop watching what’s happening on their screens. However, it’s limited to users in the US for now and only to English-language videos that display an “Ask” button. Finally, Premium subscribers can access YouTube’s redesigned watch page for the web, which apparently makes it easier to find related content.

YouTube Premium removes ads from videos and gives subscribers access to offline viewing, Music Premium, and other benefits. In February, the Google-owned video sharing platform announced it had reached 100 million subscribers for Premium and Music offerings, but it is working to get more people to pay for its services. In addition to introducing new benefits, it is also waging a war against ad blockers and recently began blocking mobile ad blocking apps from accessing its videos.
