The New York Rangers dismissed coach Peter Laviolette after the team missed the playoffs.
Laviolette, 60, led the team for two seasons and helped win the Rangers the presidents trophy and led them to the final of the Eastern Conference last year.
However, they slipped this year because they were only 39-36-7 in the regular season, the Rangers announcing his departure on Saturday afternoon.
“Thank you for everything, Lavi, and all the best,” wrote the team on X.
The associate coach, Phil Housley, also lost his job.
Laviolette is a long -standing coach of the NHL and previously held the best job with the Icelanders, hurricanes, leaflets, predators and capitals.

He won 846 regular season wins and won the Stanley Cup with Carolina during the 2005-06 season.
The Rangers will now be entirely entirely on 2025-2026 with their fourth head coach since the 2020-21 campaign.
David Quinn and Gerrard Gallant both lasted two seasons each before the team hired Laviollete in 2023.
