The New York Knicks reached the final of the Eastern Conference for the first time in 25 years on Friday evening, walking around 119-81 against the reigning champions, the Boston Celtics in match 6.
Jalen Brunson and Og Anunoby led the scoring with 23 each, a night when six Knicks players struck the double characters to propel the team to a 38 -point margin of victory, the largest in the history of the franchise in the playoffs, by AP.
The victory also represented the first victory of the Knicks eliminatory series at home since the final of the 1999 Eastern Conference, but the star of man Brunson had another piece of history.
“We are not here since my father played, or was part of the team – he’s not going to like it!” He laughed in his interview on the field with ESPN. “It means a lot for this organization and this city.”
This was clear to see as fans – including Timothee Chalamet, Bad Bunny, Spike Lee, Ben Stiller and Lenny Kravitz – celebrated jubilant inside Madison Square Garden. In the outdoor streets, some fans have climbed on a metro entrance awning while others threw plastic terminals into the air outside Penn station.
“Josh (Hart) showed me a video, walking here, guys climbing light posts,” said Mikal Bridges at a post-match press conference. “It’s crazy, guy. Great for them, happy for them. Obviously, I’m new here, but I just know how New York loves their sports, and especially the Knicks. ”
“They appreciate it for us right now, but obviously, we have taken much more.”
After the Knicks overthrew the 20 points in each of the first two Boston games, a series that had been defined by Spirit and Fight ended with New York in the cruise control.
Led 26-20 after the first quarter, the Knicks took control in the second with a race of 13-3, their domination characterized by the Chasedown block of Deuce McBride to deny Derrick White-a moment which had Madison Square Garden on his feet, and which was immediately followed by Hart claiming a second consecutive basket while being at fault by Jrue Holiday.
At halftime, the home team was up 64-37 and never looked back. The 23-point complement by Brunson and Anunoby was the 22 and Karl-Anthony Towns of Bridges and Karl-Anthony Towns. The latter also recorded 12 career rebounds.
Hart has become the first Knick since 1972 to record a triple-double in playoffs with 10 points, 11 rebounds and 11 assists, and McBride was the sixth player to reach two figures for New York. Jaylen Brown led the Celtics scoring with 20. Boston was without Jayson Tatum after having broken his Achilles tendon in match 4.
“Losing the Knicks looks like death,” said Brown after the match.
The Knicks will face the Indiana Pacers in the conference final, the same team they have played the last time they have done so far in 2000. The Pacers are also the team responsible for the release of the New York playoffs in match 7 of the semi-finals of the Eastern Conference last year.
Match 1 is Wednesday evening in New York.
