A New York judge on Friday dismissed Rudy Giuliani’s bankruptcy petition, clearing the way for two Georgia election workers to try to recover nearly $150 million that Giuliani was ordered to pay them for defaming them after the 2020 election.

Bankruptcy Judge Sean Lane’s decision comes after attorneys for the two women, Ruby Freeman and her daughter Shaye Moss, as well as other creditors, accused Giuliani of withholding information about his finances. The judge also barred Giuliani from filing for bankruptcy protection again for a year.

“From day one, Giuliani has treated this case and the bankruptcy process as a joke, hiding behind the facade of an elderly, senile man who cannot even remember the address of his multi-million dollar second home and who claims to be homeless if he has to sell that multi-million dollar second home,” lawyers for the creditors wrote in a court filing earlier this month.

Giuliani had initially asked a judge to convert the case from Chapter 11 — a type of bankruptcy that allows a debtor to reorganize his assets — to Chapter 7, which would allow him to liquidate his assets. He abruptly changed his mind and asked Lane to dismiss the bankruptcy altogether.
