New theory emerges that ‘The Acolyte’ is an origin story for the Knights of Ren

This week’s episode of The Acolyte was stunning, from its lightsaber choreography to its shocking deaths. And while the Master’s reveal wasn’t much of a surprise, since he turned out to be Qimir, Manny Jacinto’s performance as the new villain in the universe was incredible.

Now fans are speculating that what The Acolyte might be is an origin story for the Knights of Ren, rather than a story about a specific Sith.

Yes, the word Sith is used here, but Qimir says they would call him Sith, without saying he East A. In contrast, the Knights of Ren were a dark side order that often stuck around. against the Sith as a group separate from Rogue, but little is known about their actual origins.

We met A Ren in new era source material, but the idea is that he is just the latest Ren, wielding a lightsaber called “The Ren” that has been passed down from other leaders of the group over the years . This Ren was just the Ren of the “modern era”.

In terms of the connection to Qimir, here is Ren’s philosophy, using the heirloom lightsaber as a metaphor:

“Ren does not worry about what it burns, what is right or wrong, or what goals it might achieve. Ren simply is. It lives, it consumes, and it makes no apologies It’s nature and nothing else. I believe in this principle on a very deep level. In fact, I have dedicated my life to it.

This echoes Qimir’s philosophy on the force, stating that he simply wants to wield power as he wishes, with no rules attached like the Jedi. Ren’s mantra above seems extremely similar and you can see the philosophical parallels.

There is also an indicator in the series itself aside from Qimir’s dialogue, which is that the series uses the “Kylo Ren” theme from the new trilogy as a musical queue, with Kylo being the leader of the Knights of Ren, killing Ren himself and throwing away the saber, creating his own, famous crossguard. He became the new master of the Knights of Ren.

I can see him. I suppose you could see this as a twist around the issue of “the Sith have been extinct for millennia”, the famous line that some continue to cite as the Acolyte allegedly breaking canon. But there’s no confirmation yet that Qimir’s news reached the Jedi, since we don’t know what happens to Sol, Osha, and Mae. Everyone who encountered him is dead.

I can buy it. This would certainly be an interesting link to modern tradition. But in the end, I don’t care. Qimir seems like a cool enough character without necessarily needing ties to an existing group, but I guess we’ll see.
