New PS2 games are finally coming to PS5 and PS4

Sony has finally listened to PlayStation fans.

Sony has announced that it will finally offer more games from the PlayStation 2 library to make them accessible on PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4. In 2022, Sony has significantly overhauled its PlayStation Plus subscription service. In doing so, it introduced a new tier called PS Plus Premium, which featured “classic” games from older PlayStation platforms. Since then, Sony has continued to release traditional platform titles on PS Plus (and the PlayStation Store), but the PS2 has notably been left out. Fortunately, this won’t last long as Sony is now offering PS2 games on current hardware after numerous requests from fans.

Starting this month, Sony will bring its first wave of PS2 games to PlayStation Plus. Scheduled for June 11, this first lineup of PS2 titles will include Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Sly Cooper and the Raccoonus ThiefAnd Legend of Tomb Raider. These three games will be available to download and play for free for those who have a PS Plus Premium subscription. Assuming this trio of PS2 titles should also be able to be purchased on their own through the PS Store. Each is also likely to contain new graphical features and trophies as they move to modern platforms.

In the future, it’s likely that Sony will start offering more PS2 games like this on PS Plus. Over the past couple of years, the PS1 and PSP have probably been the two biggest libraries that Sony has taken inspiration from when adding them to PS Plus Premium. As a result, the PS2 catalog is still full of many games that fans would like to see become more widely accessible on current PlayStation hardware. Whether your own PS5 or PS4 hit will be available soon remains to be seen, but it’s still good to see that Sony is now starting this process.

What do you think about seeing more PS2 games coming to current PlayStation consoles? And are there any specific PS2 games you’d like to see arrive as soon as possible? Be sure to let me know for yourself on X at @MooreMan12.
