New portrait of King Charles links with his grandchildren

Today, King Charles and Queen Camilla shared a new photo to mark the first anniversary of their coronation on May 6. Royal fans may have noticed a sweet bond with her grandchildren, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.

According to People, Millie Pilkington captured the new image, taken on April 10 (just a day after the couple’s 19th wedding anniversary) in the garden of Buckingham Palace. The name may be familiar to some, since Pilkington was the person behind the royal portraits of Kate Middleton and Prince William’s three children last year. Pilkington also captured the images shared by the Cambridges to commemorate Father’s Day last year.

“I feel truly honored to have been invited to take this portrait of Their Majesties the King and Queen earlier this month in the gardens of Buckingham Palace,” the photographer shared on Instagram. And delighted that His Majesty the King is recovering so well.”

On her website, Pilkington describes herself as a “portrait photographer with a passion for photographing children,” although it’s clear she holds a special place in the royal family’s hearts, far beyond children. Last year, she shared a sweet message that touched on her bond with the family as they trusted her to capture their portraits.

“I love how this portrait reflects the love the children have for their father, Prince William,” she said of the Father’s Day photo. “With Prince Louis hugging his father’s neck with true joy, while Princess Charlotte and Prince George, their hands on Prince William’s knees, and laughing at him with adoration, you can see the adoration that ‘they have for their father and the pleasure they have with him.’

The royal family’s official account also shared a major update alongside the new photo, indicating that the king would resume his royal duties facing the public.

“His Majesty the King will soon return to his public duties following a period of treatment and recovery following his recent cancer diagnosis,” reads the caption. “To mark this milestone, the King and Queen will make a joint visit to a cancer treatment center next Tuesday, where they will meet specialist doctors and patients. The visit will be the first in a series of external engagements that His Majesty will undertake this in the coming weeks.”

The note continued, describing the next big event for the king and queen.

“In addition, the King and Queen will welcome Their Majesties the Emperor and Empress of Japan for a state visit in June, at the request of His Majesty’s Government,” the note concludes. “As we approach the first anniversary of the coronation, Their Majesties remain deeply grateful for the many kindnesses and good wishes they have received from around the world throughout the joys and challenges of the past year.”

A spokesperson added that Charles’ cancer treatments would continue and “doctors are sufficiently satisfied with the progress made so far that the King is now able to return to a number of public duties.” .
