New Pixel 9 leak highlights Google’s new AI features

We got our first look at the base Pixel 9 via a hands-on video earlier today. Before that, a Geekbench listing highlighted the lackluster performance of its Tensor G4. On the software side, the Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro Fold, and Pixel 9 Pro XL are rumored to be getting new AI-powered features, including something called “Creative Assistant.” Now a new leak from Android Authority sheds some light on what those might be.

The app will launch under the banner of “Google AI” and will include five features, two of which are already available on current-gen devices (Circle to Search and Gemini). Then there’s “Add Me,” which “makes sure everyone is included in a photo.” It’s unclear exactly what this does, but it likely has something to do with face recognition. Google tore (the wrong) page out of Microsoft’s book and included a feature that involves screenshots.

Dubbed “Screenshots,” this app uses AI to sift through your screenshots and lets you search for items using the content extracted from those screenshots. Unfortunately, it’s unclear whether the processing is done on-device or in the cloud. Fortunately, the feature is optional and can be turned off at any time via a button. Finally, there’s “Studio,” which, according to its description, can generate images/videos from text prompts.

It remains to be seen whether any of the above features will make it to the latest-gen devices. Google still hasn’t added some of the Pixel 8 Pro’s features to older phones, so it seems unlikely, at least for now. Still, we’ll know for sure on August 13, when the Pixel 9 series debuts.
