New photos show damage to an aircraft carrier from the US Navy suffered in a collision with a merchant ship last week.
The USS Harry S. Truman S. Truman warship accosted in an American naval installation in Sudden Bay, Greece, for repairs during the weekend after the incident near the entrance to the Suez Canal.
The photos published by the Navy on Saturday show damage to the outer quarter of the aircraft carrier with nuclear propulsion 1,100 feet long.
The damaged areas included “the exterior wall of two storage rooms and a maintenance space … a line handling space, the fantas and the platform above one of the storage spaces”, declared the navy in a press release.
None of the damage affects the ship’s combat capacity, according to the press release, adding that he has carried out flight operations since the accident last Wednesday evening.
A team including engineers in structure and naval architects performs a detailed evaluation of damage and would implement a repair plan, said the navy, without offering a calendar for repairs.

The Truman collided with the Besiktas-M, a 617-foot (188 meter) bulk carrier with Panamanian paved, in crowded waters near the Suez canal off the Egyptian port in the Mediterranean Sea.
The merchant ship was also damaged, but no injury was reported in one or the other of the ships, said the navy following the collision near a crowded anchorage for ships passing the channel.
Former American navy Carl Schuster, an instructor at the University of Hawaii Pacific, said that such conditions left little room for error.
“There is not much room for maneuver in a limited seaway, and the two ships require about a nautical mile to stop,” said Schuster.
Small navigation errors, the poor reading of the other ship’s intentions or the delayed decision -making of the crew of one or the other ship could have quickly put them in danger “with very few viable options “Said Schuster.
Before the accident, the Truman was in the bay of Suda for a “visit to the work port” after two months of combat operations in the central command region, a statement from the navy said.
Meanwhile, he carried out several strikes against the Houthi rebels in Yemen and launched air strikes against the Islamic State in Somalia, the navy said.
Rear Admiral Sean Bailey, commander of the Truman’s Carrier Strike Group, who includes a guided missile cruiser and three destroyers, said that he remained operational throughout the region.
“Our mission has not changed and we remain determined to respond to any challenge in this dynamic and global security environment,” Bailey said in a statement.
