At the end of March, while increasing his preparation for the 2025 season, Derek felt pain on the right shoulder. It was the first time that its launch of football has a large volume since it recovered from a concussion and a left -handed injury suffered during the game on December 8, 2024. Derek immediately contacted the medical team of Saints.
Finally, medical analyzes objectively determined that Derek had undergone a labral tear and also had significant degenerative changes to his rotator cuff.
Since then, Derek, his representation, the medical team of saints and external medical experts have worked together to determine the best way to follow. Surgery was an option, compromising the entire 2025 season, but there was no guarantee that Derek would return to the level of strength, function and play performance to which he was used to.
After consultation with his wife, Heather, Derek decided that it was in the best interest of his family and the organization of saints to withdraw from the National Football League.
“By reflecting prayer, and in discussion with Heather, I decided to retire from the National Football League,” said Carr. “For more than 11 years, we have been incredibly blessed, and we are eternally grateful and humiliated by this experience. It is difficult to find the right words to express our thanks to all the teammates, coaches, management, property, team managers and in particular fans who have made this special trip. Your unshakable support has mean the world for us.”
