New music from Aaron Carter will benefit a nonprofit mental health foundation for kids

After suffering heartbreak and heartbreak, Aaron Carter’s twin sister, Angel Carter Conrad, shares her family’s story and unreleased Aaron Carter music in hopes of helping others. A portion of the proceeds from “The Recovery Album” will be donated to the non-profit The Kids Mental Health Foundation.

Aaron Carter died in 2022 after battling addiction and mental health. His official cause of death The Los Angeles County coroner determined that the 34-year-old singer accidentally drowned in a bathtub after taking the anti-anxiety medication alprazolam and inhaling difluoroethane, a flammable gas.

His death is one of the few tragedies the Carter family has faced in recent years.

Leslie Carter, Aaron’s sister, died in 2012 at age 25 after an apparent overdose. Last year, Bobbie Jean Carter, another of Aaron’s sisters, died at age 41 from “intoxication from the combined effects of fentanyl and methamphetamine,” Entertainment Tonight reported.

In 2022, nearly 108,000 Americans died from drug overdoses, according to the report. Centers for Disaster Control and Prevention reported.

“There’s definitely an issue of generational dysfunction here, but as far as growing up, there was a time when we were, you know, a close-knit family. There was a lot of love, but there was a lot of chaos continues at the same time,” Angel Carter Conrad told CBS Mornings.

She said her parents often argued and she couldn’t count on them in times of need, but that this fame changed the dynamic of the Carter family. In addition to Aaron’s singing career, his brother Nick Carter is a member of the Backstreet Boys.

“Once the money started coming in, you know we were a family that had no money,” she said. “We were from upstate New York. My parents were poor and they had never seen anything like this before, so once the money started coming in, it really started to change the dynamic because that money has become the driving force.”

Through her grief, she wants people to know that good can be found, even in a bad situation.

“The good about this situation is Aaron has this platform and my family has this platform and I would like to right this ship and really start helping other people and learning from our history.”

The team of Aaron Carter and Angel Carter Conrad are now releasing their unreleased music.

“Fans were clamoring for this music, and after Aaron passed away, we did a benefit concert in his honor called ‘The Songs for Tomorrow,’ and we played ‘Recovery’ during that show,” said Angel Carter Conrad . .

She said that because of her brother’s struggles, she eventually lost hope. She focused on her therapy to help him.

“There was a time for many years when I still had hope, but in the last years of Aaron’s life, I was just waiting for him to pull through, and unfortunately, he didn’t. ‘never did.”

“The Recovery Album” is released on May 24. In an effort to raise awareness, a portion of the proceeds will be donated to the non-profit The Kids Mental Health Foundation, formerly known as On our Sleeves.

“Children’s mental health is so important and I mean, you know, we want to create a world where mental health is an essential part of every child’s education, and that’s what I’m doing with my daughter” , said Angel Carter Conrad.
