New Loomis Costco draws hundreds for opening day deals

Well before sunrise, the line to be among the first to enter Costco’s new location in Placer County extended beyond the loading dock’s large platforms and wrapped around from the corner of the Loomis warehouse. By 7:30 a.m. Thursday, the ribbon was cut and the race to the markets for the first day was underway.

“This puts Loomis on the map,” said Loomis Mayor Stephanie Youngblood.

The new location, with 350 jobs, could potentially generate up to $1 million in revenue annually for the Loomis government, Youngblood said.

Among the main items that attracted attention, beyond the now-familiar focus on bourbon and whiskey offerings, was a stack of men’s and women’s Hokas near the registers.

Stephanie Jennings was one of those who was excited to be a part of the excitement.

“Everyone is so nice,” Stephanie said.

“I think we’ll move on to the other one (in Roseville), because that one is going to be crowded,” Mickenzie Jennings said.
