New leak reveals Apple’s new iPhone 16 Pro design

Apple is set to launch the upcoming iPhone 16 Pro smartphones early next month, and new photos of a quartet of Pro phones have emerged that showcase a key design element that should help sell Apple’s latest handheld.

Apple leaker Sonny Dickson has revealed exclusive images of the upcoming iPhone 16 Pro. The four models shown showcase design elements carried over from the iPhone 15 Pro family, as well as some very important aesthetic decisions to appeal to fashionistas.

These are not the final retail models, but rather the final stage mock-ups that will be used for marketing and retail presentation. The photos and images you see, especially those of the lifestyle genre, will most likely be these mock-ups. After all, the latest software doesn’t have to be on display; it can be added in post-production if needed.

What we can see are the long-awaited colorways. Dickson has already revealed the colorways of the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus: “The iPhone 16 colors include the classic white and black, but pink, blue, and green are also added to the mix.”

The iPhone Pro’s colors have always been a bit more muted than the standard iPhone’s solid colors, and that’s something that will continue with the iPhone 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max. It’s predictable that Apple will offer white, black, and silver models (and it’s predictable that they’ll have incredibly artistic names to describe the shades).

It’s the fourth model that’s going to get some attention. The long-rumored bronze model seems to be an official option for those who buy one of the new phones. I expect this color to feature heavily in the marketing of the new iPhone Pro models.

A closer look at the photos reveals the new Capture button. It joins last year’s Action button, which allows for a certain level of user customization in deciding which apps and actions the button triggers. The Capture button will be closely tied to the camera, and it’s safe to assume that a camera shutter button will return in some form. That it’s capacitive and offers force sensitivity will allow a half-press to lock focus before the photo is taken – echoing an age-old practice – seems a given.

The camera lens layout will be taken from that of the iPhone 15 Pro. Thanks to this layout, which allows stereoscopic videos to be recorded in landscape mode, the resulting video files can be processed in Apple’s “spatial video” format for viewing on the Apple Vision Pro headset, which allows the new ecosystem to be integrated into the larger.

The biggest change is in the software, which isn’t on display, namely the inclusion of generative AI in all of Apple’s operating systems, including iOS. Unfortunately, Apple won’t have the rebranded Apple Intelligence for the launch of the iPhone 16 Pro. A subset of features will be available in October, but the full suite won’t arrive until the end of the first quarter of 2025.

Until then, Tim Cook and his team hope that bronze will be enough.
