The Mark Sánchez criminal case will apparently be televised.
Via Lauren Conlin of Los Angeles MagazineJudge James B. Osborn approved a request to allow cameras in the courtroom. Her predecessor in the procedureJudge Jennifer P. Harrison, refused to authorize the cameras.
In the federal court system, cameras are prohibited by rule. In state courts, cameras are often allowed.
As Conlin explains, Indiana courts generally restrict the presence of cameras. However, each judge has the discretion to authorize them.
Frankly, all court proceedings open to the public should be televised. It is an inherently public exercise. Media should be allowed to transmit audio and video content to anyone interested in consuming the content.
Judge Osborn set several preliminary hearings for the trial, as well as a trial date of December 11. Continuations occur regularly; Sanchez’s criminal case is unlikely to go to trial so quickly.
Sanchez faces multiple charges (including battery) stemming from an Oct. 4 incident that left him stabbed multiple times. Perry Tole, a 69-year-old truck driver, was allegedly assaulted by an allegedly intoxicated Sanchez, who was in Indianapolis to call the Week 5 Raiders-Colts game for Fox.
Tole filed a separate complaint against Sanchez and Fox. Civil procedure is still in its infancy; The first step will be for Sanchez and Fox to file formal responses to the complaint.
